These are photos of how I blocked off the holes and put tin foil over them after taking out the inerds.......i used the filling to absorb the moisture from the pumpkins!

Day 1

We went charity shop searching and couldn’t find many interesting or big enough items……so we went to find the skip!

We wanted the water butt, but it wasn’t for sale so we ended up with a couple of speakers instead, which we stripped and comparmented. The idea is to stitch the photo’s together at the end to give a panoramic view of the countryside.

We know of a graveyard with a good view so will have a wonder up there when we have a few pumpkins made. The trouble with the project seems to be getting the paper inside without exposing it.

The pumpkin team

This picture shows how we started painting the pumpkin and bore a hole in one side (about the size of a 50p) and then covered it with tin foil. We then pierced the tin foil with a pin. Then we made a cover out of more tape and kept this for when we need to attach it later.

This is the basic Wiki page for pin hole cameras....quite good detail on how to calculate the exposure times etc. so might come in handy later.

Pumpkins.......

I was wondering round hardware stores and charity shops looking for a container to be my camera and came across a massive pile of pumpkins...perfect?!

So I carved it out with a ruler, a can opener and a wooden spoon.....all I could get my hands on for a couple of quid in the hardware store!

I am going to wait to see if the rest of the group have any other ideas but might play with this either way...I even found a youtube video on someone elses pumpkin camera, so I know it can work. Plus I have black spraypaint at home so can spray it to be more light proof later....and it's easily reproducable!

Solargraphy

A good way of documenting "open spaces" just go out in the dark and leave the camera there....will have to ask about exporsure times!

I like how the mist is recorded on the film and is quite transient and spooky...
Its almost like capturing ghosts becasue the figures are always quite blurred and white.

The way the lady has made the hole is important.....I would like to be able to figure out the focal points and f-stops though??

Quite a good way of doing the shutter, using duck tape and masking tape.....
